Arg...Bloggity blog blog blog....

So... mmm... Yeah...

It has been a while since i updated here.

A lot has happened in that time, both with me and with artesia.

Artesia died. There is no other way of putting it. With the death of artesia as a comic, the only support for A:AKW went away. Then the forum died.

I got published. After re-discovering D&D, and discovering it could be cool. I kind of kicked around on the paizo Message boards for a while and discovered that i could write well enough, with the aid of spelling and gramar checkers, to get published. My first adventure, Skeleton Moon, has been out around six months now and I love it.

However, things are changing. Artesia is tentatively back. As i lay dying was a truely excilent return by Mark and I really hope beyond hope that I will not have to wait as long for night visits.

Also, i am within the hour, starting into running A:AKW again, with a new group. I intend to start posting bits and pieces here again from now on and hope that you'll ebjoy it.

Hathhalla

This is the first of the short house rule religion sections i will be writting for the blog. as yet, these rules are unplay tested, so use with care. It should also be noted that this is very much the first draft of my version of the hathhallan cult. I hope over the next month or two, to be able to bring you all a much more complete version, in PDF format. Which will go into greater details on how i see the cult of hathhalla functioning. Tomorrow however, you will get a first look at the mysteries of Hathhalla, as they exist in my game.

The Cult of Hathhalla.

Hathhalla, the sun's righteous flame, Goddess of vengeance and battle, born of Deiva and Irre she is one of the younger goddesses, however, during history she has been one of most important, such is the power of her domain, that was she who rose Yhera to battle and confine Geteema to the underworld. Hathahalla, ruled the heavens as the sun lioness during the winter century and even now, sometimes takes the throne, at these times her Vail falls upon the world, the suns light weakens and ash fell upon the world.
Her cults worship hathhalla as a keeper of truths, goddess of battle and vengeance, but also the mysteries behind vengeance.

Hathhallan Practices:

Hathhallan practices vary, and are largely split into two camps, where priestess of Yhera venerates Hathhalla, and the majority of her followers, Hathhalla is a goddess who is appeased, through votive offering and libation, and rarely called upon. She is feared, and respected, as the keeper of the Vail, the goddess who brought about the winter century.
However, to her mystery cult, she is a protector, teacher and lover, whose fury guides their hand.
As with all members of the old religion, worshippers of Hathhalla do not eat meat of Domesticated animals, except when it has been sacrificed to a god, though they may eat the products of animal such as milk and eggs.
Priestesses of Hathhalla almost exclusively carry axes into battle, with a special devotion to the Labrys

Rites:

Hathhalla has few rites, though her worshippers are expected to undertake other rites of the old religion. To her mystery cult, there are three rites of special importance, Initiation rites (Where new initiates join the ranks of the pride), hunt rites (where the pride hunts down the guilty, to satisfy revenge), war rites (similar to those of yhera, save that rituals focus on Hathhalla over Yhera Anath, Yhera Invictus and the Gorgonae)

Offerings & Sacrifices:

Traditional offerings to Hathhalla include Libations of Red Wine, Ashes, Silken Vail's and war gear of defeated enemies. Sacrifices to Hathhalla are always male members of a domestic breed, usually a ram, but occasionally a boar or bull.

Priesthood:

Hathhalla's priesthood is exclusively female, and where she is worshipped in her own right, her priestesses are always initiates of the mystery cult.
Men may make offerings and sacrifices, but few dare due to the cult of Hathhalla's reputation. A group of Hathhalla worshippers is referred to as a pride

Shrines & Temples:

Temples of Hathhalla are rare; her worship is to most, a fairly uncomfortable prospect, as her tenants' place the need for vengeance to be greater than forgiveness, justice and law. However, shrines to her, in her form of the Vail of heaven can be found in some yheran temples.

Artesia and Me.

So, what is Artesia? Well, Artesia is a set of graphic novels, a truly excellent role-playing game (Origins award winning).

And I originally stumbled across it by accident. The cover art caught my eye, as I was browsing. Over the next few weeks, whenever I visited the shop, I was slowly teased into buying it by nothing more than what I could see on the cover (Bah, and to think I used to claim to be immune to marketing ploys).

Imagine my surprise when got it home and found what I have come to consider one of the best games I have ever encountered. Given that I have played more games than I care list, this was quiet something.

The one disappointment in all this, the sad lack of supplementation for the game, Despite its amazing standards, in art, system and setting, (which I have yet to see matched as a whole), the Artesia game line currently consists of a core book and the comic series. But in this sad fact, I am finding a silver lining. Self-supplementation! At this point I should warn you that I am imagining fan fairs and a chorus of cheers, but here goes anyway (alas, my psychosis is that deeply ingrained).

Anyway, I am working on a number of small essays and elements of system, which I will be posting here. As the system currently lacks a dedicated forum, this seems as good a place as any.
